Bookmarks Summer Reading Celebration 2016

Summer Reading BookletBookmarks Summer Reading Program, now in its second year, helps students, parents, and teachers prepare for the annual Bookmarks Festival of Books and Authors. The program has book lists that Elementary, Middle, and High School students read, and responded to over the summer.

K-12 students across North Carolina were invited to participate in the Summer Reading Program. Participants earned books, gift certificates and cash prizes. In addition, K-2 participants received a hard back copy of Home by Carson Ellis and 3rd – 12th grade participants received two tickets to attend the closing keynote with John Grisham.

The responses from K-12 students represented 28 schools and 5 North Carolina counties.  Rachel Kuhn Stinehelfer, the Education and Program Specialist, for Bookmarks said, “The entries were superb this year, and we were pleased to see the participation double from last year.” All participating students were honored on Saturday, September 10 at the Bookmarks Festival of Books and Authors.

Thanks to support from Blue Door Group of Wilkinson ERA, students in lower grades received a copy of the picture book, Home by Carson Ellis. Students in higher grades received two tickets to attend John Grisham’s closing Festival event on Sunday.
