Henry’s Home Tips

Pic of front door panel of farmTraditionally doors are made of wood. Wood doors expand and contract with changes n humidity. To accommodate movement, the inset panels are fitted in grooves cut into the rails and stiles. The panels are free to move and held in place by friction. After painting a door, use a utility knife to make a thin cut in the dried paint that bridges the joint around the panel perimeter. Restoring the free movement helps prevent jagged cracks around the perimeter joint as seen in this example. Happy Painting!
